So I've been saving a little here, and watching my spending a bit there, and...

I was going to wait a while longer until I had saved up some more, but then I found out that the NEX (who price-matches, is tax-free, AND has a better extended warranty) was phasing it out, and Best Buy had it on sale for like $180 cheaper. And I've been really trying to get back into photography a bit more seriously, so I jumped on it and bought one, because being fiscally responsible is for chumps, right?! :D

x-posted to randompictures as usual.

Congratulations on the new camera! Once you start using the DSLR, you're going to love the control you have over things like depth of field. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Yay canon! What model is it?

Also, my refurbished XSi has been running perfectly for 3 years. I've taken 25,000 photos with it. DSLRs might SEEM expensive, but if you want high quality photos it's a really good investment. You can generally take 100,000+ photos before a good DSLR craps out.

it's the T1i.

oh believe me, I know the value of a DSLR. I used to sell them for a long time, and yeah they not only produce way better photos, but they also last a hell of a lot longer!

it's well worth it! not only do they produce much better photos, but they last a VERY long time! you might spend $200-300 every few years upgrading or replacing a point-and-shoot camera, whereas a DSLR will last for years and years and in the long run be the cheaper option.

I've had mine for over a year and still learning. Think i'll always be learning. I need to replace the kit lense and get the body and other stuff checked and cleaned now at a camera shop. Great pics though still. I got my cam used off craigslist.

nothing wrong with a used DSLR, they're great cameras and can last a VERY long time if properly taken care of.

what kind do you have? i'm thinking my next lens will be the 50mm f1.8 lens and after that the 55-250 telephoto.

i have an older Sony. An a200. Man I want a Telephoto Lense for camping trips.

cool! I just want a telephoto because trying to take pictures of something from on the ship is difficult. it doesn't look that far away seeing it with your eyes, but through a camera's lens it's waaay out there. like if you've ever tried to take a picture of a full moon, even the ones that hang super low in the sky.

yes even with a tripod it's hard. Comes out looking tiny. haha
