got my CoD: Modern Warfare 2, and i also got my coffee table pissed on.

ok so i just slept like 11 solid hours. it wasn't even like a wake up at one and fall back to sleep thing, it was a go to sleep sometime between 4 and 5am and wake up at 4pm. i guess my body needed rest. it was feeling pretty drained last night.

so yesterday Dan and i got out for what would probably be our last game of frolf for the year. normally it's not nice enough to play this late so a beautiful day was a nice surprise. after that i went to work from 5 to 11 at the Wal-Mart store. my co-workers at that store were pretty nice, and it's a pretty laid back place (our "rush" was about 8 people). two things though: i feel dirty after spending that much time inside a Wal-Mart, and the other guy i closed with is one of those fast food lifers who only wants to talk about his pipe dreams, his dysfunctional family, or how he was "the greatest soldier ever" until he hurt his back and was medically discharged (most of what he told me seemed based in truth, but VERY exaggerated). at any rate, work was very draining. after work i dropped off Mr. Word-In-Edgewise, picked up some beer and went to Best Buy to pick up my copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2 (w00t!!). as i pulled into the parking lot i almost shit myself. the ENTIRE parking lot was full! not a single place to park. i had to park in the mall lot and walk over there! i knew Best Buy had taken over 400 pre-orders but i didn't expect ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE to be there for the midnight release! holy shit! I got there at 11:45 and i didn't get out of there with my game until 1:30!

by the time i got home Dan was so drunk that he'd passed out on my couch. so i said, "Fine! I'll play it myself!" and proceeded to do so, until after a couple hours of playing i heard dan get up behind me. suddenly i feel something wet splashing me on the back of the leg. i turn around and HE'S PISSING ON MY FUCKING COFFEE TABLE!! so i yell "DAN! WTF ARE YOU DOING?!" he wakes up and is still completely out of it, and going, "no i didn't! that's just water." he starts starts trying to clean it up and is only making a bigger mess so i have to bring him into the bathroom and let him finish, and clean everything up, and take him home. by that point he's finally coherent enough to know what's going on, and he's apologizing, and i'm past the point of anger just laughing my ass off at him as i drive him home.

at any rate, what an interesting night last night was. :P

Grand Forks, ND: The Call of Duty-est Town in America

according to THIS ARTICLE in Joystiq, Grand Forks, North Dakota has bought the most pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. hey, that's my hometown! wow!

finally we're being recognized for something that's not COMPLETELY a tragedy (see: Flood of '97), though that might depend on who you ask.

i'll admit though, there are A LOT of people who play CoD in this area. I was talking to my former manager at Best Buy and he said in our town of just over 90,000 (Fargo, ND where i live now) the Best Buy here alone has taken over 1,000 pre-orders for just the Standard Edition on Xbox 360.

X-Posted to gamers and north_dakota.sizesize

on the single night of Halloween i saw people dressed as these:

12 sluts a-slutting (ok, more like 100, but i lost count)
11 Jokers joking
10 Batmen stalking
9 naughty nurses
8 Logans Wolverine-ing
7 Phelps a-swimming
6 Marios Leaping
FIVE MIIIIIICHAEL JACKSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONS!!
4 dicks in a box
3 Blind mice
2 Billy Mays
And one dude dressed up as Christmas treeeeeeeeee!

(Edited because i was REALLY drunk and couldn't remember the costumes i saw very well. this version is far more accurate)
***Things left off the list: a couple Egons Ghostbusting, Altel Chad and his 4 rivals (they beat me out in my category), 5 pro wrestlers, and surprisingly enough only one Rorschach.

so i went as Zombie Billy Mays and actually got picked for the costume contest. so i went up there and got to meet Taking Back Sunday (4 years ago i might have cared, before Adam Lazarra turned into as huge a douche as Pete Wentz. i did get to gnaw on his head though, which makes for an interesting story, "Hey I once gnawed on Adam Lazarra's head!"). i was paraded in front of the crowd and got to give my Zombie Mays pitch for his new product "BRAAIIIIIINS!". i even saluted the crowd with Shamwow Vince's severed hand which i kept in my tool belt as a snack for later. anyway i took 2nd in my category and about 3rd or 4th overall. i forget which, i was pretty drunk by the time they announced it! :P
either way, i had a bunch of people telling me throughout the rest of the night i should have won, which to me is as good as winning anyway. i mean $200 is nice, but the fact that that many people LOVED my costume that much is pretty goddamn awesome!

and now i'm off to pass out watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show as is my Halloween tradition! It's just a step to the left....

EDIT: also, i'm setting my alarm for 7:45am so i can get at the good 1/2 price Halloween candy tomorrow morning at target! (as is also my tradition)
EDIT #2: i am dumb. i got up at 7:45 and drove the block or so to Target, got there and realized it's sunday, so nothing opens until noon in ND! (fucking Blue Law!) back to bed!:P
EDIT #3: I just spent like $20 on candy. fuck yeah! i also hit up The Halloween Shop for their 50% the entire store clearance and picked up these sweet steampunky aviator goggles, and finally replaced my totally rad 80's shades that got stolen, AND I bought a skinny piano tie. next 80's night i'm totally fuckin' ready!
i normally don't do these writers block things, but i thought it was kind of funny timing, because just last night I called out my mom when she used the word "faggy". I also get on my brother's case any time i catch him using the word "gay" as a derogative.

but pretty much any hate speech (racial, homophobic, sexist, whatever), whether it was intended as a direct remark at a certain group or not, i'll interject. though in my redneck part of the country people get all pissy when you do and go "i don't have anything against gays i just mean that what i was talking about was stupid/fucked up/lame/etc." then i have to try and explain to them that associating that word with negativity only serves to make you look homophobic and perpetuate the myth that there is something wrong with people who that word describes.

unfortunately in my redneck part of the country people just don't care. no matter how many times i try and correct my mom she'll still have a slight homophobia (not uncomfortable around them or anything, but she still thinks it's some physical manifestation of some mental illness brought on my the trauma of being raped by an uncle or something. her words: "I just don't buy that someone is born that way.") and no matter how many times i correct my best friend he'll still take racist jokes a little too far sometimes and make me really fucking uncomfortable.

I'LL DO IT!!" so he goes, "You know it? alright get up here!" so i did. he also invited a girl up to sing the high second half of the verse (I'm back in the futhafuckin' county jail...) and she was nervous and forgot the words so i wound up jumping back in and helping her with that part too. he also, had us sing the "Bitches can't hang with the streets" part. :P

That's me in the red shirt!
so i got to see one of my favorite bands last week. Straylight Run came to Fargo and played in a tiny little venue upstairs from my favorite Irish Pub. I got some pics, but unfortunately they didn't come out well because the sensor on my camera is dying, and asking a camera with a bad sensor to take a good picture is like asking a nearly blind man who's high on LSD to paint a picture without his glasses. a few sort of came out ok though, you'll notice some interesting effects on them. :P

It makes me sad that Michelle (the lead singer John's sister) quit the band just before i got to meet them. i wish she'd been there, and not just because she's fucking beautiful.

also, i'm super-psyched for next Friday because i get to go see Ben Folds live!! I've seen him live before too, but it was a long time ago, back when he was still touring with just him and his piano and nothing else. also, this venue has a history of me getting to meet the band, so perhaps i'll be able to snap a picture with Ben, and maybe even get something signed! (that is if my camera cooperates. *sigh* i really need a new one. sadly i really can't afford one.

x-posted to randompictures

ZOMG, CUTEST MOVIE EVAAAAAR! this movie was definitely geared more towards the kids and wasn't as epic as some of his other stories, so your average adult might not like it as much as some of Miyazaki's other stuff, but there is something to be said how there were NO KIDS whatsoever in the theater (they were probably all in G-Force -ugh-) and everyone still walked out saying what a good movie it was. it was one of the most visually stunning Miyazaki films yet, the scenery behind the action and all the underwater parts were simply breathtaking, and the characters were all very likable (then again that's true of just about ANY Miyazaki film) EVEN with the leads being voiced by a Jonas Brother and Miley Cyrus' little sister. anyway, Ponyo is about a curious little fish who sneaks out from her father's boat/submarine and washes up on the beach. she's rescued by a little boy (Sosuke), who promises to take care of her no matter what. Her over-protective water-wizard father (voiced by Liam Neeson) goes searching for her and sees her in the clutches of Sosuke and thinks she'd been captured and tells him, "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." wait... that was that other Liam Neeson movie where his daughter got "Taken" (get it?). anyway, he takes her back but now she wants to stay with Sosuke, with whom she has fallen in love. so she escapes, and becomes human but on her way out causes a horrible typhoon that floods Sosuke's village. everyone made it out ok, but Sosuke's mom went back to the senior's home where she works to help evacuate the residents (voiced by Betty White, Cloris Leachman, and Lily Tomlin!). the next morning comes and Sosuke and Ponyo leave to go find his mother. meanwhile Ponyo's parents are testing Sosuke to see if he truly loves her or if he simply likes having a magic fishgirl around. if he truly loves her she gets to remain human and their true love will restore balance and order to nature, and subsequently, the world (yay!).

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!

We then went downtown to see Moon, but when we got to the theater we found out that they weren't playing it that night and their website was wrong. but they had to re-spool it later that night to transfer it to the main theater and to do that they just let it play, so since they had come all the way from Grand Forks just to see the movie, they let us in at midnight for our own private showing! that's right, the whole theater to ourselves! ^_^
anyway, Moon stars Sam Rockwell as a man who has been alone on a lunar mining base for almost 3 years. with his 3 year contract soon to be fulfilled he's anxious to get back home, but just as home seems so close he starts to hallucinate, and has an accident. when he comes to he is faced with the most disturbing truth. i really don't want to go any further or it will ruin the whole thing for you. suffice it to say the whole thing is just fucking surreal and amazing! Sam is essentially the ONLY actor you see the entire film aside from a few minor characters on video messages, the man has proven he can take on these surreal characters (he was AMAZING as Victor in the movie Choke! based off the novel by the totally awesome Chuck Palahniuk), but to pull off a one-man-show like this and do it so damn well, is fucking incredible!! the only other main character is the robotic helper GERTY (voiced by Kevin fucking Spacey!) who is essentially HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey except instead of being the cold, logical, 'villain' he actually breaks protocol to help his friend Sam, as "helping Sam with anything he requires is his primary function" also, his clever use of emoticons to convey his 'emotions' is just so damned entertaining!

so this past weekend i went with my friend Dan to his hometown (Kettle River, MN) for Ma and Pa days. it's essentially a big redneck festival. there's mudbogs and a street dance, and you basically spend the ENTIRE weekend drunk. it was good times.

also, i found a new job. my friend Bobby is a manager at subway and he got me a job there. it's not spectacular, and i was really hoping to get back into retail or something that could be a career, but i guess it will work for now. i really need to get caught up on my bills and it pays $9/hr (that's pretty goddamn good for fargo. it's more than i made at BBY).

there were some other things i was thinking about blogging about recently as well, but i don't feel like i can write very interestingly today. so perhaps i'll post more later when i'm not feeling so lame. :/

so some of you might remember back when i had my eyebrow pierced. i stopped putting it in because i got sick of having to take it out every day when i got to work. well now that i don't have a job <s>that makes me take it out</s>, i decided to put one back in. up until a couple of months ago i had made sure to wear it every once in a while just to make sure it didn't close up, but then i lost my barbell and forgot to buy a new one. so i was in the mall job hunting and i decided to get a new barbell.

even after having it pierced for four years solid, over the past couple months it closed up a little bit. i only got it about halfway in, but the girl at Almost Famous was kind enough to shunt it back open for me. i'll tell you one thing though, it hurts A LOT worse the 2nd time around. fucking scar tissue >_<

also, Fallout 3 has officially devoured my soul. that fucking game is just so goddamn addicting!

oh! i almost forgot! also when i was in the mall i came across a large vending machine. but this machine didn't dispense sodas or snacks, it was stocked with that friggin Proactiv® acne medication.

just what every teenage girl needs! now all her friends that also hang out at the mall can watch her buy her acne medication!
why can't we get the cool vending machines? like the ones that are weird shaped or make your candy bar go through a maze to get to you? or even the ones like in the airports that dispense iPods and stuff? oh and did i mention it's got a tv attached to it that blares their infomercials 24/7 so just in case you're one of three people who haven't seen their many many commercials starring the likes of Mandy Moore, Taylor Swift, P Diddy, Julianne Hough, or Jessica Simpson, now you can get assaulted with them as you walk through the mall! "oh what's this machine now? lucky for me there's a tv playing an infomercial! perhaps i'll sit down and watch and see just what this is all about!" fuck this world's priorities are out of whack.

So I finally just did my taxes.

yeah i know, they were due on April 15th, but whatever. Here's the deal, first, two of my three w-2's were late and i didn't get them until like April 14th. second, I never got a booklet, because not having a car all the places that have the booklets are so far out of the way, and i have tried to E-File before (last year) and was so damned confused i find it's just easier to do a paper copy. so i was going to go get a booklet and forms, but it became one of those things where when you think of it you don't have time and when you have time it doesn't even cross your mind. (this is mostly true, but we all know the the real reason is, i'm lazy and forgetful when it comes to shit like this). i don't know why it didn't dawn on me until the other day that the forms are probably downloadable on the internet. they were, and what's more, in a fill-in-the-blanks form PDF file! YAY!

so anyway, here's the fun part. i not only got to spend my evening doing my taxes for this year, i got to completely re-do LAST year's taxes as well! why? because last year when i sent in my state taxes i got them back a couple weeks later saing "hey, you forgot to include a copy of your federal taxes in here" and i went OHHHH SHIT! because i had only filled out one copy for Federal so i didn't have another copy or new forms/instruction booklet. i actually did make it out to the library to pick up more but they were completely out. so then it got lost in a stack of paperwork and completely forgotten about. until today when i realized i should really re-do those. luckily i found last year's stuff right next to this year's stuff online so i got those done too.

all told between the three i sent in, i'll be getting back just shy of $800!! i plan on dropping $500 or $600 on a down-payment for a car. nothing spectacular. i'm talking like a $1000 or $2000 used car that will just get me back and forth between here and Grand Forks, Bismark and possibly Minneapolis. i figure if i lay down at least a quarter of it and knock down the principal a little the financing for people with shitty credit won't rape me QUITE as hard on the high as fuck interest.

i want to keep like $200 to go towards a new camera, though, since mine is getting pretty old. there's nothing wrong with it, it's just sad that i don't use it nearly as often as i'd like, because every time i pick it up my subconscious reminds me of everything the new ones can do.

i want THIS ONE:

(Pic is a link to Canon's info page for it)

remember that one i posted about a while back? Well this is its big brother! It has the same 12MP resolution, the DIGIC4 photo processor which makes it super-fast and AWESOME in low-light conditions, the post-editing options built right in to the camera (red-eye fix, B&W/sepia, crop, & resize which allow you to edit the photo AFTER it's been taken), Color Accent/Color Swap (soooo much fun), and the same 720p HD video (fuck yes please!). but this one takes it a step further! this one has full manual controls (P, A, S, & M), a 3" LCD Screen, 12x optical zoom (yes fucking TWELVE!), a 28mm wide-angle lens, and some of the best macro capabilities of any compact camera i've ever seen (we're talking lens almost touching the subject and still in focus)! and unlike its predecessors (the SX100 & SX110) this one is much more compact and FINALLY uses a rechargeable Li-Ion Battery!!

*ahem* sorry, i just kinda photo-nerded out for a minute. the moral is this camera is FUCKING SWEET! sells for $350 but through Canon accommodations for working at Best Buy i can order it for $250!! :D

OK, so many of you know that my favorite band of all time is Our Lady Peace. what some of you might not know is that their new CD is coming out this summer and is going to be awesome because this is the first time they have done the album entirely on their own. usually there is a producer there fucking shit up (i still fucking hate you Bob Rock) but this time they produced it themselves in their own studio. it's entirely THEIR album reflecting the sound THEY want to have (more like their very first ablum, Naveed).

so i found on Amazon that a real release date has finally been set, the full track list has been posted, and it looks like the cover art has changed a little.

JULY 21!!! WOOT!!!

Track List:
1. All You Did Was Save My Life
2. Dreamland
3. Monkey Brains
4. Never Get Over You
5. Escape Artist
6. Refuge
7. Right Stuff
8. Paper Moon
9. Signs Of Life
10.
